Sunday 2nd November 2014 – THE WEATHER HAS CHANGED …

… today. The sun disappeared quite early on and by the end of the day today, it was raining. First time since I can’t remember.

And I know that the sun disappeared early today too because despite it being a Sunday and my traditional day of rest, I was up and about at some silly time like 08:35 – so much for my day o rest – but I made up for it by doing almost nothing at all. I think that I’m entitled to one day a week where nothing at all happens.

And having done (or not done) that, I’m off to bed early. I have a lot to do next week and I need my beauty sleep – not that it does me any good of course.

Sunday 15th June 2014 – NOTHING MUCH HAPPENED …

… today.

I was awake at about 07:50 but if anyone really thinks that I was going to be out of bed at that time of morning on a Sunday they are thoroughly mistaken.

So at 09:20 when I crawled out of bed and had my breakfast, and that was really about it.

I made something of a drisory effort at tidying up in here, which didn’t last long, and then for the rest of the day I did little if anything. Somehow I wasn’t in the mood for the doing anything and I don’t know why. In fact I crashed out for a couple of hours in the afternoon.

All of the stuff I had planned to do, I ended up doing nothing and I was in bed shortly after 22:00.

I’ve really no idea what is happening right now.

Sunday 1st June 2014 – TWO EXTRAORDINARY THINGS …

… worthy of note happened through the night.

Firstly, despite there being no footy last night and me not having any coffee since mid-afternoon, it was well after 04:30 this morning when I went to bed. What time I actually went to sleep, I have no idea. It certainly wasn’t quickly.

If that wasn’t bad enough, I was up and preparing breakfast at 07:45. How do you explain that? I can’t even wake up at that time in the week when I’ve had a decent night’s sleep.

So I’ve no idea what has been going on but it’s certainly something extraordinary.

So having crashed out for an hour or so, I’ve been tidying up in here a little and sorted out the fresh food again. High time I did that too. And then I’ve been working on the computer again.

After all, it is Sunday and I’m entitled to have a day off. I’m back to work tomorrow.

Sunday 25th May 2014 – THIS BLASTED WEATHER!

When I finally awoke this morning (at … errr … 12:37 this afternoon – I must have been tired) it was absolutely beautiful. But I didn’t have much chance to enjoy it as I had a lot to do (much of which didn’t get done).

I left early for the football (as Pionsat were playing the Goatslayers at Teilhet) as I went via Cecile’s to check her mail, check on the house and do a load of waxhing. and the lawn is completely overgrown – I’ll have to cut that again pretty soon.

Pionsat lost 2-1 at the Goatslayers which is hardly a suprise as they only had 9 players out. Christophe, Julien and Jerome are injured and Kevin was unavailable, and after the maximum effort last night no-one was available from the 1st XI. But the weather broke. We had a thunderstorm and torrential, driving rain enought to chill anyone’s ardour.

I was round at Liz and Terry’s later to rehearse our radio shows, and Liz cooked a vegan lasagne which was excellent as usual. And then I made my way home, picking up the washing on the way back.

Sunday 18th May 2014 – WHAT ON EARTH WAS I DOING …

… being awake at 07:35 this morning? And a Sunday too? This kind of thing is unheard-of.

And not only that, I’d had a late night too and I’d been on my travels during the night (don’t ask me where – I fogot as soon as I woke up) as well. So I dunno what was going on.

Anyway, I had the whole morning on the computer with Audacity and it now does what I want it to do. Having seen (and heard) the shambolic mixing that Radio Tartasse does of my live concert rock shows, I’m now going to be doing my own. I had a fiddle around with the next one and I now have 58 minutes of perfect continuous sound stream with no interruptions or pauses or clicks. It’s properly balanced too.

Not only that, I’ve found on the internet a couple of websites that have classic radio shows so I’ve been downloading a few streams of programmes and editing out some suitable soundbites to use on the radio. I always like to have special guests on my programmes and have little conversations with them.

The football wasn’t quite as successful this afternoon. Having given it maximum effort last night, it was a very thin team that went out this afternoon – no substitutes available and in the heat, a couple of players wilted and the team ended with just 9 players.

fcpsh football club de foot pionsat st hilaire as charensat puy de dome ligue division 4 france dimanche 18 mai 2014Charensat had packed their team with a couple of first-teamers (not that anyone can complain – Pionsat would have done the same in similar circumstances) and in the end the score was 2-2. Kevin was in goal and played a blinder, making a couple of excellent saves at vital moments and I really don’t understand why he won’t play in goal more often.

Matthieu was hurt in a tackle and limped from the field in the final minute and from the free kick, his brother Vincent, from 45 yards out emulated his brother by blasting the ball through the wall and through the keeper into the net for the equaliser.

So this evening I did a little tidying up with the green boxes that I bought from IKEA in Brussels. However, I can’t see the difference and I dunno why.

Anyway, back to work tomorrow.

Sunday 16th February 2014 – SUNDAY AGAIN …

… and so in accordance with principles laid down for a long time, I had a nice lie-in (until 09:45) and since then I haven’t done a tap of work.

That is, I finished the radio programmes that I started yesterday, and then carried on rearranging my file storage system, and you’ll be amazed at how much room I’ve freed off on the external drives and there’s still plenty to go at yet.

Apart from that, I left the house just three times – twice to fetch water and once to fetch some wood. And that was that.

It wasn’t like that during the night though.

I was on the western seaboard of the USA and I got to hear about a safe that was being installed in a house so that the owner could put all of his valuables in there. I waited just until the safe was inaugurated and then went round there armed with a 3-metre length of 27mmx27mm lath (I’ve a few of those here as it happens). I attacked the safe installer with the piece of wood and I shot the householder, then made my escape with the loot.

Outside the house was a car with three people – 2 women and one man – who were waiting for me. I hopped into the car and said “where to?”, to which one of the women replied “Green Bay, Wisconsin” (home of the Packers as it happens).

Howeverwe were being picked off one by one by the Police and eventually there was just me, on foot, at the border between the USA and Mexico. I crossed into Mexico, and as I walked through the little fenced alley in no-man’s land (or “no-person’s land” as the legendary Turdi de Hatred once called it) I was admiring a llama grazing in a field. At the Mexican border I was admitted but the young Border Immigration officer wouldn’t stamp my passport. He said that just for a day visit it wasn’t necesary. However I insisted, saying that it would be a useful indication of my presence as well as being a nice souvenir of my visit and eventually he agreed to stamp it.

But why does all of the excitement happen through the night?

Sunday 9th February 2014 – WITH IT BEING SUNDAY …

… I don’t feel bad at all about staying in bed until 10:30, even if I was in bed long before 23:30 last night. Decent sleep and li=ong lie-ins is what Sunday is made for.

And what else?

Absolutely nothing. The only times that I’ve been outside the house were to fill two kettles of water and to take ths statistics. And that was that.

I’ve been tidying up some files on the various external drives that I have – trying to bring some order out of chaos. Nietzsche said “out of chaos comes order” but Neitzsche never knew me.

And that’s your lot. I’m off to bed again now for another early night – ready to resume the conflict for tomorrow; See you tomorrow night.

Sunday 26th January 2014 – YOU WON’T RECOGNISE …

… my little attic today. Despite it being Sunday and a day of rest, I’ve done some tidying up and now the place looks like someone is actually living here.

Mind you, it was a bad-tempered me that rose up from my stinking pit this morning. It seems that I forgot to switch off the alarm this morning, and then if that wasn’t bad enough, an alarm went off on this new phone at 09:00

But anyway, be that as it may, the kitchen area is now scrubbed and cleaned and I’ve done a pile of dusting – mainly due to the fact that there was a pile of dust to move – wood fires create a lot of dust.

The only time I stepped out of doors was to fetch water for the coffee (twice) and to collect the stats (once). Not surprising seeing as how it has been pouring down with rain for much of the day. I had absolutely no intention of going anywhere else.

So tomorrow is back to work. If the weather is good I’ll be going the battery box. but if it’s bad I’ll be carrying on with insulating the walls. That’s always been the plan – having one fair-weather job and one foul-weather job on the go at the same time. That way, there’s always something to do no matter what the weather.

Sunday 29th December 2013 – AS I SAID YESTERDAY …

… this weather is totally weird. As I prophesied, this morning, it was raining. Not as heavily as yesteray but raining just the same. And this evening, we have clear skies and stars and the like again. So it’ll pour down tomorrow – just you wait and see.

With it being Sunday I’ve had a kind-of day off. I’ve not done any houswork at all but I’ve finished recording all of the music that I bought myself at Christmas, I finished the second set of rock music programmes, and I’ve made a start on the general information programmes.

And that, dear reader, is that. I’m having an early night now for tomorrow I’m going to go back to work. I won’t be doing much but I do have a pile of shelves to fill.

Sunday 1st December 2013 – SUNDAY IS A DAY OF REST …

… and so I rested. In fact I didn’t even get out of bed until 10:30, and that was only because I needed to visit the beichstuhl.

I didn’t do any housework either. I had a nice relaxing morning reading a book. As you know, I’m fully of the opinion that everyone should have the right to have one day per week where they can sit and do nothing at all if they so choose, and not feel guilty about it.

I didn’t even set foot outside my house until 14:30 – not because there was nothing to set foot outside for, but merely because it was so perishing cold.

However at 14:30 I set out, for Terjat as it happens. No footy again in the Puy-de-Dome today but Terjat’s 2nd XI had a rearranged match against Quinssaines and so I reckoned that I would toddle off over there to see whether we were going to have a repeat of the humiliation of a couple of weeks ago when, even playing with 11 men against the 10 of Premilhat, they still managed to be well-and-truly stuffed 7-0.

as terjat football club de foot quinssaines allier decembre 1 2013 franceWell, Quinssaines were pretty poor, although quite well-organised, and Terjat were even worse. But somehow Terjat managed to win. And not by just one goal, but by an astonishing 5-2 scoreline.

The big difference was that while both goalkeepers were, shall we say, guardiens de fortune and so couldn’t really be expected to do too much, Terjat actually put the Quinssaines keeper under quite a lot of pressure, shooting from just about everywhere there was a sight of goal. And of course, it paid off in spades.

On the other hand, even though the Terjat keeper never made a clean catch during the entire 90 minutes, no-one followed up the balls into the area to pounce upon the dropped balls, or even had a serious attempt at trying to beat him. In fact, when finally Quinssaines did have a go at really testing him, a free kick blasted over the wall into the goalmouth from about 25 yards out, it went clean through the keeper’s hands into the net.

Ohhh what might have been!

No gridiron tonight either. The internet connection isplaying up and I was seeing nothing but a stop-start freeze-frame slideshow. That was a shame as we were to be treated to a bottom-of-the-table grudge match between the Falcons and the Bills. It doesn’t get more desperate than that.

Sunday 24th November 2013 – THIS DAY OFF …

… is still continuing, even if the snow is now starting rapidly to melt.

And guess what? Yes, you are right – I haven’t done a tap of work today. Perhaps maybe a little 10 minutes of tidying up – that’s about all. Apart from that, I’ve read a couple of books and watched a couple of films and that’s my lot.

That’s not a problem. I’ve always said that everyone should have one day each week where thay can do whatever they like and not feel guilty about doing it. And had the weather been any better (because we have been shrouded in a hanging cloud since Friday night and there’s been no solar energy for two days) I would have been doing so much more of nothing too. For example, I had to knock off the gridiron at half-time so I don’t know how the Raiders ended up against the Titans or any of the other results either, but you can’t have it all ways.

Tomorrow I’m radioing and so an early night is going to do me the world of good just for a change.

Sunday 7th July 2013 – YES, IT IS …

… Sunday today and, as is usual for a Sunday, I’ve done next-to badger-all.

I say “next to” of course because in my effort to bring order out of chaos I’ve tidied up the kitchen table and given it a scrub, and I’ve also tidied up around the floor a little.

That’s not too bad considering that it was 10:00 before I heaved myself out of my stinking pit.

Not quite as bad as last week when it was 11:00 but it’s still good enough.

And I’ve made a startling discovery – I’m running out of water.

I know that that might be hard to believe after the weather we’ve had this year but remember that it’s at least 6 months since I cleaned the filters.

The volume of water that’s been cascading down the roof and into the pipework could easily have disturbed stuff in the settling tank and blocked the filters.

I’ll have to have a good look at that and lean the filters – it’s either that or there’s a split in the tank.

And Cécile came round with some more of my stuff from her house.

After much deliberation, she’s arrived at the logical decision which I had been expecting her to make, and it’s what I would have done too in the circumstances so I can’t say that I blame her.

She’s put Ice Station Zebra up for sale and she’s moving out on Thursday to take care of her mother full time on the Ile d’Yeu.

I’m going round on Wednesday to rescue the rest of my stuff and take a pile of her rubbish down to the dechetterie, and that will be that.

I don’t know when we shall meet again, but it will probably be at Philippi.

Sunday 30th January 2011 – Sunday is a day of rest of course.

No question of any alarm clock. And so at 09:53 (which is early for me on a Sunday as you know) I heaved myself out of my stinking pit. A leisurely breakfast was followed by a shower and just some general mooching about – and why not? After all, we’ve been working hard just now.

After lunch we went for a walk in the park around here. It is in fact an enormous series of parks that are all linked up to make a good walk. We started off just 200 yards from here where you can disappear into the woods that were formerly part of the domain of the Abbey of Dieleghem. Here there is a shrine that is supposed to have been the subject of  a miracle and there are always a few people around there (except today of course – it was too flaming cold). We saw some parrots too there. Not too far away a small zoo was bombed during the war and the birds escaped. They have now established themselves in the wild just around here and it’s quite impressive to see them fly about.

We then walked along the bed of running sand that stretches for a few kilometres from the north to the sout of the city. We took the north direction and ended up at the Chateau de Laarbeck, which is now a cafe.

And that was that. We came home and thawed out because it really was a freezing cold day. But it was still nice to be out and about. Tomorrow we are back at work.

Sunday 21st November 2010 – IT WAS SUNDAY TODAY …

… and that’s traditionally a Day of Rest as you know.

And so we started with a little lie-in. Until about 11:00 or something like that. And that’s the last lie-in now for 7 more days as I’m back at work Monday with alarm clocks and 08:30 starts and so on.

So after breakfast I carried on with the tidying up up here in the attic and it’s looking a little more respectable. So much so in fact that I feel more comfortable in having guests around.

Which is just as well as Terry and Liz called by for a chat on their way past. And I was here too as there was no football this week.

I’ve also steam-cleaned the oven and fridge and they needed it too, having been unattended for almost 8 weeks. You’ve no idea just how quickly the condition of a fridge can deteriorate – or maybe you have, I dunno.

So tomorrow if the weather is okay I’ll be out digging up my vegetables. I need to organise them ready for the winter. If I leave them any longer they will freeze into the ground.
