… afternoon I’ve had today. I’ve been spending from about 14:00 to midnight (with various pauses, of course) trying to figure a captcha on my site, but with no luck at all.
You’d think that I’d know better than to try to do a silly job like that and think that it will only take half an hour or so.
Anyway, it all went wrong last night – that was when it all started. I was in bed by 22:30, looking forward to a really good sleep. Instead, I had a bad night. I tossed and turned during the night and coughed myself to death. When the alarm went off at 06:29 I felt like death.
As usual, it took an age to find the energy to crawl over to my seat, but when I did, the first thing I did was to listen to the dictaphone to find out what had been going on.
It looks as if everyone in my dream had had a bad night and was thoroughly whacked too. But this dream refers to a couple of clubs in Wales who have signed some “young, promising talent” released by the English clubs’ training schools at the close season.
By now, I was hearing the rattling of the coffee equipment so I guessed that my friend was abroad and occupying himself with the morning tasks.
Anyway, I went in to join him, just in enough time, though, to have ahot mug of coffee stuck into my sweaty mitt.
We had quite a good chat until the nurse arrived, and he continued his German lessons with my friend and the Hound of the Baskervilles who was now awake and came to join us in conversation.
After the nurse left, the Hound of the Baskervilles dragged his master off walkies and I made my breakfast as usual – porridge, toast, and juice for my morning medication. And while I was eating, I was reading some more of A HISTORY OF ARCHITECTURE by Charles Freeman.
He’s still on his horse about the end of the Gothic era, and this is his latest rant –"We have not hitherto seen the intrusion of any distinctively foreign element ; the idea is generally completely Gothic, and often of great merit, the corruption is to be traced in the poor and inaccurate details, in some cases retained by corrupt tradition from the latest Perpendicular".
As you can see – it’s “no holds barred” in this discussion. Still, only a few pages to go.
When I came back in here, there were a few things to do. And then, when they were done, I turned my attention to the outstanding notes from yesterday.
TO BE CONTINUED
