LES GUIS - THE PHOTOS FROM 2000 |
- The wind turbine
- it's a small wind turbine of about 50 watts peak but it keeps ticking over putting a small charge into the battery circuit
- When I eventually buy the solar tiles for the roof, I'm going to mount the two solar panels on a bracket attached to the pole. That way they can attract the full sunlight
- The wind shading effect of the barn roof can be seen here. The mounting pole needs to be maybe two metres higher, but at that height it'll need some bracing to stop it swaying too much in the wind
- These are the doors now that I finished making them. Compare this photograph with photo 16 in 1999
- You can see the new barn doors here (or rather, THE barn doors - as there wasn't one here before we built these) and the wind turbine. Also, the edge of the concrete floor pan is visible, as is one of the bulkhead lights.
- This photo shows the hard core of rock I laid down in order to put the concrete pan on top. You can also see the temporary stand made of pallets and car wheels for the solar panels. There's also the solar shower by the kitchen door.
- The concrete pan is finished. This will make a nice floorpan for the verandah which I can use as a cloakroom / entrance hall / place to put a fridge-freezer etc.
But the solar panels have gone, and there's a ladder in shot. What can this all mean?
- So this is what it all means! The solar panels are up at last! But the idea of me up a ladder working without holding on to anything - I should have sold tickets for that. I could certainly have retired on the proceeds!
- The house, with solar panels.
- Here you can see more clearly the solar panels on the frame that I made, with space for a third panel.
- Here you can get an idea of the work involved in digging the trench for the electric cable. Remember, the water pipe in set in underneath this - a further 30 cm (12 inches) lower
- Here you can see that I've knocked down the wall between the living room and hall, and exposed the stairs. Shortly after this, the stairs went - exchanged with neighbour Claude for an old 12-volt fridge. There'll be a U-shaped staircase here to save space, with a half-cellar underneath to store the batteries and so on, and off the half-landing there'll be a door to lead onto the "first floor" of the lean-to at the side, where I'll be putting the bathroom and my office.
