And Sunday is a lie-in, of course, so if I don’t finish them tonight, heaven alone will know when they will be ready.

So despite abandoning my notes halfway through last night, it was again after midnight when I finally crawled into my stinking pit. And, unless I’m very much mistaken, I slept right the way through to the alarm this morning. I remember nothing whatsoever of the night.

It was again rather difficult to rise to my feet this morning, both for the lack of motivation and also because of the lack of strength, but I eventually made it, hours later than intended, and went to unlock the door for Isabelle the Nurse when she arrives.

From there, I headed into the bathroom to sort myself out for the day, and I even had a shave in case I meet Emilie the Cute Consultant later at dialysis.

Afterwards, when I was back in here, I attacked the notes from last night, and I’d almost finished, but not quite, when Isabelle the Nurse turned up. She was quite late again this morning, and one of the things that she told me was that this morning, when she awoke, it was 1°C outside her house, and that’s enough to frighten anyone.

We had a good laugh and a joke about Sunday morning and how I considered that she ought to bring me coffee in bed when she wakes me. She told me to make sure that I prepare the coffee machine for the morning. And no-one was more surprised than me when she told me that she was being serious and it would give her great pleasure.

Well, tomorrow, I intend to try, to see if she was serious.

As she was leaving, saying “goodbye” to me in her cheerful voice, she bumped into someone else leaving the building. So I imagine that by tomorrow, it’ll be all around the neighbourhood here – “who was that woman leaving Eric Hall’s apartment early in the morning then?”. It’ll do my street cred no harm at all.

Once she’d gone, I made my breakfast, and while I was eating, I was reading some more of THE REPORT OF THE WOOLHOPE NATURALISTS CLUB 1867.

During the annual general meeting of the members, the chairman tells us that "Mr. Houghton had been kind enough to bring with him some photographs of a very curious and interesting character, upon which he would favour them with some observations presently.", and I for one can’t wait to hear his observations.

But it clearly explains to me why these gatherings are for men only, and ladies are not permitted to join.

On that point, I decided that I’d better go and fill the washing machine and start it … "he forgot yesterday" – ed … to make sure that I don’t get into any dirty habits, with these “curious and interesting” photographs circulating around.

Back in here later, I had a listen to the dictaphone to find out what had been going on during the night.

Last night, there was a football team, and they were near the bottom of the league, but they had a good victory and as a result, a couple of players had been chosen for some kind of select XI. I was picked to go into the team to replace one of them. I was given strict instructions about what I was supposed to do and where I was supposed to be and how I was going to play. Every now and again, the Swansea City manager looked back to make sure that I was doing what was planned, which means that I – because it was going to be a very tough match. But the next time that I looked, the score was 3-1 to us, and I’d scored a really good goal of which I was very proud, but the manager yelled at me to still keep playing my normal game – still keep playing the game that he had told me to play rather than my normal game. Then he took me out and told me that I had just five minutes to play and then he was going to figure out a way to replace me.

It seems very much to me that I have football on the brain right now. And Swansea City do have several players out on loan with clubs in the Welsh Premier League at the moment, so that explains the involvement of their manager in this dream.

But during the actual match that I watched last night, there was one of the managers continually bellowing orders at one of his players to play in a different fashion. So the player responds by scoring a goal for his team, and that shuts his manager up.

Having dealt with that, I go back to finishing off the notes from yesterday, and now they are on line completely.

The next job is to check the stats from last night. And I note that the ChatGPT chatbot has been searching another one of my files in respect of its artificial intelligence library of answers. Today, its interest is in my CLARKE CITY web page.

What with one thing and another, I’d hardly got going with work before it was time to knock off and prepare myself for dialysis. I sorted out my disgusting drink and midday medication, and while I was packing my computer away in my bag, my cleaner turned up to apply the anaesthetic to my arm.

After she left, I stretched out across the kitchen table and passed into deep oblivion. When the doorbell rang, I was convinced that I’d only been away with the fairies … "although not in any manner that would excite comment from the editor of Aunt Judy’s Magazine" – ed … for a couple of minutes, but it was in fact a good thirty-five minutes.

And it was my favourite Belgian chauffeur today, so we had a really good chat on the way to Avranches, and we had to pick up my favourite patient on the way, which made my day even brighter.

But to make your day even brighter, I can’t keep on going, so I’m off to bed. See you at some point tomorrow when I’ll try to finish everything off.

TO BE CONTINUED

0

0

… yet again!
